• REPORTS: Reports of truck cargo theft across the country grew 49% in just one year, reaching a total of 3,892 in 2019, according to Mexico’s freight trucking association (ANERPV). The number only includes those theft incidents reported to the association’s 40 member companies.
• CENTRAL: Following similar trends reported by the insurance industry, the new data confirms that most of the robbery reports occur in the highways located in central Mexico, along routes like Veracruz/Puebla, Mexico City/Querétaro, and Querétaro/Salamanca, among others.
• HOPE: Despite government numbers showing a 7% decrease, truck cargo theft remains a challenge for Mexico’s private sector. In December, the Mexican Senate finally passed anti-jamming technology legislation to prevent criminals from manipulating tracking technologies to prevent theft.
• LAWS: “The anti-jamming law will be beneficial for freight, insurance, and satellite tracking industries, as it will increase the levels of security for the transportation of goods, and reduce theft on federal, state and municipal roads”, said Víctor Manuel Presichi head of ANERPV.
