• REMAINS: Sixty human bodies and more than 400 clues potentially linked to other fatal victims have been recovered so far this year from five different clandestine sites in Jalisco, according to authorities in Mexico’s fourth-largest state (pop. 8.1 million).
• CRISIS: Either in mass graves or deep ravines across this western state, authorities reported Monday they have been working on identifying human remains found in the municipalities Lagos de Moreno, Jocotepec, Tlajomulco, Zapopan, and Tonalá.
• COMPLEX: “We have no date of when we will finish processing these points, due to the complexity they present. Nor do we want to despair and just do a hurried job. We are trying to locate suitable equipment (to complete the search)”, said Gerardo Solís Gómez, the Jalisco’s state Attorney General.
• SECOND: According to a 2019 report by renowned human rights NGO, CMDPDH, Jalisco was the second Mexican state with the greatest amount of mass graves reported between 2009 and 2014 with a total of 53. Leading the count was the southwest state of Guerrero, with 59 mass graves.
