• PANDEMIC: Nearly half of Mexicans (48%) do not approve how President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has handled the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new national poll released by Mexico City’s Reforma newspaper. AMLO’s disapproval stood at 36% in mid-May and 37% in late April.
• TAMING: Moreover, 72% of Mexicans don’t agree with AMLO when he says that the Mexico has managed to “tame” the coronavirus outbreak. The very first time that AMLO mentioned the idea of Mexico had “tamed” the pandemic was in April. Almost all of Mexico is at high risk of contagion now.
• DISAPPROVAL: “The President records the highest data of disapproval regarding the management of the pandemic (since the end of March)”, said Lorena Becerra, polling director for Reforma newspaper. Around 59% of Mexicans believe the economic crisis will be among country’s worst.
• TRIPS: Starting on Monday, AMLO will embark into a 2,170-miles work trip beginning Monday in the Caribbean resort of Cancún. Some 53% of Mexicans is against AMLO restarting his work trips. Reforma’s poll was conducted via phone among 400 adults between May 29-31.
