• CONTACTS: The Mexican government has established contact with the US government to discuss a coordinated response to the coronavirus pandemic in North America, including measures at the US-Mexico border, according to Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard.
• CLOSURE: As the US and Canada announced a 30-day closure of their shared border to non-essential traffic, the Mexican government confirmed that Ebrard and US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, held a telephone conversation to discuss a joint response.
• RESPONSE: “Secretary Pompeo expressed his interest in preventing further community transmission and in developing an effective, coordinated COVID-19 (coronavirus) response”, said US Department of State spokesperson, Morgan Ortagus.
• REPORTS: Yesterday, US President Donald Trump confirmed a New York Times report saying he will “very soon” invoke a measure that would presumably allow him to reject the processing of undocumented migrants and asylum seekers at the US/Mexico border.
