• ATTACKS: Two police officers and two alleged gunmen were killed Wednesday in a series of 8 simultaneous attacks against police forces in the border city of Ciudad Juárez (pop. 1.3 million), according to the Chihuahua state Attorney General’s office. Those responsible for the attacks have not been identified yet.

• POLICE: Following a wave of violence against the Chihuahua state police, authorities confirmed that one state police officer and one municipal police officer were killed in the Wednesday attacks occurring across Ciudad Juárez including the city’s maquiladora area.

• STATISTICS: Violence against police officers in Mexico is high with at least 446 murders in 2019, according to a count by non-governmental organization Causa en Común. This year there have been at least 109 killings of police officers with 16 of them happening in the central state of Guanajuato.

• ADVISORY: In its most recent update to its Mexico travel advisory, the US Department of State recommends US citizens to reconsider travel to the state of Chihuahua. However, the advisory allowed for travel to the maquiladora area of Ciudad Juárez along Bulevar Independencia.
