• COMPLAINT: Mexico denounced before the UN Security Council what it labeled as “the hoarding” of coronavirus vaccines by a group of 10 rich countries, following weeks of delays in vaccine deliveries that almost brought the Mexican immunization effort to a standstill.

• COUNTRIES: With 10 rich countries concentrating three-quarters of doses, Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, asked the UN body to accelerate the beginning of deliveries of vaccines to poor countries through the World Health Organization’s Covax program.

• INJUSTICE: “We urge countries to avoid hoarding vaccines and speed up the first stages of Covax deliveries, favoring distribution to countries with fewer resources”, said Ebrard, whose country spent almost a month without receiving vaccines directly ordered with pharmaceutical companies.

• NUMBERS: As of late Tuesday, Mexican officials reported 101,598 vaccine doses applied on Tuesday, bringing the total number of doses administered in Mexico to 915,383. The total doses received by Mexico is 1,636,350 after the arrival Sunday of a major shipment by AstraZeneca.
