• WORST: Two thirds of Mexicans (67%) believe that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic is yet to come, according to a new national poll released by Mexico City’s newspaper Reforma. However, a majority of them (54%) is comfortable with returning to work and buying groceries at a supermarket.

• APPROVAL: With a phased-in reopening of the Mexican economy planned for June 1st, around two thirds of Mexicans say they have concerns about going to gyms and restaurants. Approval for President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s handling of emergency remained stable at 50%.

• CONCERN: “The survey reveals the difficult situation in which Mexicans find themselves”, said Lorena Becerra, Reforma’s polling director. Some 38% of Mexicans worry about not covering basic needs, 36% say they worry about contracting coronavirus and 24% say they worry about both.

• EMERGENCY: Today, 324 municipalities will reopen after the Mexican government deemed no coronavirus contagion was detected. However, Mexico just experienced its week with the most confirmed cases and deaths . Reforma’s poll was conducted via phone among 400 adults between May 12-14.
