• OUTBREAK: At least 661 Mexican nationals in the US have died from the coronavirus outbreak, with more than 76% of the deaths happening in the state of New York, the Mexican government reported Tuesday. Most of the deaths in New York are concentrated in the five boroughs of New York City.

• REPORTS: According to data released by the Mexican Foreign Ministry, New York leads the list of states with more deaths of Mexican nationals due to coronavirus with a total of 506. Far behind are California (39 deaths), Illinois with (36 deaths), and Colorado (13 deaths).

• COLLABORATION: “I must say that local authorities in general in the US have acted very consistently, recognizing that they must protect those (people) who work or live there. It is the case of New York”, said Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s Foreign Minister, thanking mayor Bill de Blasio.

• FOREIGN BORN: The number of New York City residents born in Mexico was estimated to be at least 162,000, according to US census data analysis by the City University of New York (CUNY). However, the Mexican consular authorities believe that at least 500,000 Mexicans live in the area.
