• STUDY: Mexico is analyzing the request of the US and Mexican private sectors to jump-start manufacturing supply chains disrupted by the coronavirus emergency, but it is not yet the time to talk about it, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Thursday.
• ASSESSMENT: “An agreement is going to be reached. When they (in the US) open, we have made a commitment, above all with the national businessmen, to analyze these openings, so that little by little they can return to normal production at the (US-Mexico) border”, said López Obrador.
• URGENCY: During the past weeks, the US private sector has expressed concern about the Mexican government’s designation as “non-essential” and the operation of industries that in the US are considered “essential” amid the pandemic. Some are urging for these designations to be lifted as soon as possible.
• CONCERN: “We are, however, deeply concerned about the health emergency decrees…that have resulted in the forced or threatened shutting-down of our companies’ essential manufacturing facilities, as well as those of our suppliers”, said the US National Association of Manufacturers on Wednesday.
