• CANCELLATION: Mexico’s third largest airline, Interjet, will stop servicing international destinations beginning Tuesday March 24th due to the global turmoil in air travel demand along with increasing travel restrictions around the world due to the coronavirus outbreak.

• BUST: This weekend, Interjet said it will halt 25 international routes connecting Mexico to several airports in the US, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador and Perú. As recently as early March, Interjet was planning further expansion to Honduras.

• CRISIS: “We are experiencing the worst health crisis in our modern history, which will bring about important economic and social changes at a global level”, said William Shaw, head of Interjet, who said operations will resume depending on how travel restrictions and demand evolve.

• NUMBERS: In 2019, Interjet transported more than 36,000 passengers in international routes just behind Aeroméxico among the Mexican carriers. For passengers in domestic routes, Interjet is number three among Mexican carriers behind low-cost Volaris and Aeroméxico.
