• BREAKFAST: Federal and state forces arrested Sunday three Mexican Navy members as they were having breakfast with three operatives of the so-called Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel in the industrial city of Celaya (pop. 494,000) in the central state of Guanajuato.

• FIGHT: Last year, the violent territorial fight between the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel made Guanajuato the Mexican state with the largest number of murder complaints: 2,775. This year, local authorities estimate deaths have already surpassed 400.

• MEASURES: “There was an intelligence operation and they were arrested. Who carried out the arrest? The (Mexican) Navy itself. There was an alleged criminal association with the organized crime, and we acted upon that”, said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Monday.

• DECISION: Earlier this month, a federal judge in Celaya ordered the release of the wife of Antonio Yépez, aka ‘El Marro’, the alleged leader of the violent Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, after it was exposed in court that the raid where she was detained by federal forces had been unlawful.
