• HIGHWAY: A 100-mile-long stretch of highway running parallel to the Rio Grande on the Mexican side of the US-Mexico border is the “hottest” flash point for violent crime in the whole state of Tamaulipas, the top military officer in the area said Tuesday.

• RIBEREÑA: Running from the city of Nuevo Laredo to the town of Miguel Alemán, the stretch of highway known as “La Ribereña” is one with high presence of organized crime due to being the territorial limits between the Cartel del Noreste and the Cartel del Golfo gangs.

• WATCHED: “What we must recognize is that there are people who are watching us and who control our movements: where we are and where we are going. But at no time have the security checkpoints been removed”, said Brigadier General Carlos Arturo Pancardo, military chief in the region.

• AMERICANS: On Tuesday, the US State Department confirmed that the 13-year old who was killed during the weekend’s attack against an Oklahoma family was an American citizenship. After spending the Christmas holidays in Mexico the boy and his family were attacked in La Ribereña highway.
