• REMAIN: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Tuesday via Twitter that he had privately met with AT&T’s CEO, Randall Stephenson, who told him that the company will keep investing and strengthening its position in Mexico despite the company reporting losses in the country.

• MEASURES: Stephenson also met in private with the plenary of Mexico’s telecoms regulator (IFT) which is to finalize a review of its “asymetric” measures against América Movil, the main actor in the wireless sector, by the first quarter of 2020. The measures were designed to boost competition.

• TWEET: “I welcomed Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T, the most important telecommunications company in the world. He informed me that they will continue to invest in Mexico and strengthen their operations, which means increasing competition and a benefit for consumers”, said López Obrador.

• LOSSES: Having arrived in the country in 2014, AT&T continues reporting losses in the Mexican market (USD 179 million in Q3 2019) and has a share of 14.8% of the country’s mobile market, according to IFT numbers. The company has a total of 18.6 million wireless subscribers in Mexico.
