• DESIGNATION: Close to two thirds of Mexicans (63%) are against the idea of the US Government designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations as President Donald Trump has suggested to do, according to a new poll by REFORMA newspaper. Only 28% agrees.

• ASSESSMENT: Weeks after some high profile violent incidents in Mexico, including the massacre of 9 US citizens in Northern Mexico, Trump will be holding a meeting today in the White House to assess whether or not designating the Mexican cartels as terrorists, according to press reports.

• VISIT: With the US Administration being vocal in recent months about the need for the López Obrador Administration to present a clear anti crime strategy, US Attorney General William Barr visited Mexico on Thursday where he discussed US-Mexico security cooperation.

• THANKS: “Barr thanked the Mexican government for a number of recent matters, including the arrests of individuals suspected in the Nov. 4 murder of 9 US citizens in Northern Mexico and Mexico’s partnership in combatting illegal immigration”, according to the US Department of Justice.
