• THOUSANDS: The number of displaced people in Mexico due to violence and conflict during 2018 was of 11,000, many of them in the States of Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán, Oaxaca y Sinaloa, according to an international think tank.

• CONFLICT: During the past decade, the numbers of people in Mexico have increased dramatically in the middle of a violence epidemic in many regions of the country for an accumulated total of 338,000 according to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) based in Switzerland.

• LOW FIGURE: “In many contexts, and particularly in urban areas, there are smaller displacements that are not being registered. So by definition they are conservative figures, but equally alarming”, said Vicente Anzellini who authored IDMC’s Global Report on Internal Displacement.

• NEXT: For some years now, Mexico has remained country number two in the number of internal displacements in The Americas -following Colombia- and several members of the NGO community have pressed the Mexican Congress to take action and pass a bill to focus on this very issue.
