• FORENSICS: Mexico City selected Norwegian engineering firm DNV to perform an independent forensics analysis of Monday’s deadly subway overpass collapse that left 25 dead. Plagued with irregularities from the start, the subway line total cost in 2012 was the equivalent of US $2 billion.
• PARALLEL: Known for having produced the report into the 2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, DNV has already began its investigation in the overpass collapse in the eastern borough of Tláhuac and will run parallel to the local Attorney General’s Office own probe.
• CAUSES: “The central issue here is to know the causes of what happened because there are 25 people who lost their lives, and because this a multi-million public work that was built”, said Mexico City mayor Claudia Sheinbaum adding that the total cost of the investigation has yet to be defined.
• NUMBERS: Authorities said Wednesday afternoon that the total number of deaths stands at 25, including people who were aboard the train and people traveling in vehicles right underneath the overpass. Thirty-eight people remained hospitalized and 31 others were already discharged.
