Majority of Mexicans say AMLO did not take appropriate coronavirus precautions

• PRECAUTIONS: Days after disclosing he had contracted coronavirus, a solid majority of Mexicans (60%) say that president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) did not take appropriate precautions, including deciding not to wear a face mask, a new poll by Reforma newspaper reveals..

 

• STRATEGY: The survey also found that 52 percent of Mexicans believe that it is the moment to ask
the López Obrador administration to modify its strategy for battling the coronavirus pandemic. Mexico is the fourth country in the world with the most coronavirus deaths in absolute terms.

 

• CONFIDENCE: “People interviewed express solidarity and concern (about López Obrador’s health). They think that if his health worsens the country would pull through, thanks to its (government) institutions”, said Lorena Becerra, Reforma newspaper’s head of polling.

 

• TRUST: According to the poll, 53 percent of Mexicans believe that the government’s strategy against the pandemic is wrong but only 38 percent of Mexicans disapproves López Obrador’s handling of it.Reforma’s poll was conducted via phone among 400 adults between January 25 and January 27.
