• REOPENING: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will present Wednesday a phased plan to for reopening Mexico’s economy after a national lockdown that began on March 30th due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mexico’s national health council is the ultimate authority on the matter.
• NUMBERS: As of late Monday, Mexico has officially reported 36,327 coronavirus cases and 3,573 deaths. Mexico City accounts for approximately a 27% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state, State of Mexico, follows in second place with a 16% share of cases.
• PHASED: “Lifting of sanitary measures should be progressive and with a gradual reopening”, the Mexican federal government told state governors ahead of the final meeting of Mexico’s national health council. At least five regions of Mexico still are experiencing significant outbreaks.
• REGIONAL: On Monday, Mexico’s Health Minister, Jorge Alcocer, had said that a group of 300 municipalities were considered for an early reopening given the evolution of the coronavirus outbreak there. Mexican authorities were also analyzing how to reignite auto supply chains.
