• ACCUSED: A federal judge agreed yesterday to go ahead with organized-crime proceedings against two suspects allegedly involved in the massacre of 6 children and 3 women in the Northern state of Sonora in November 2019, according to Mexico’s Attorney General Office (FGR).
• SUSPECTS: According to government sources, the two men formally accused are Hugo Alberto Parra Chaidez, aka “El Cholulo” and José Arturo Ruiz Vargas, aka “El Caporal” who allegedly are members of La Línea, a violent gang affiliated with the Juárez Cartel drug trafficking organization.
• HOMICIDE: Mexican authorities have not yet publicly clarified the exact number of people who are facing charges in connection with the massacre. In January, the FGR said they have arrested a total of five people. However, none of them have been charged with homicide.
• MASSACRE: Dual US-Mexican nationals, the murdered women and children were part of a small Mormon colony in the town of La Mora in Sonora just two hours south of Douglas, Arizona. Authorities believe that a group of between 30 and 40 unknown gunmen attacked and torched their vehicles.
