• FINE: Mexico’s information and communications technology chamber (CANIETI) said that a USD 69 million fine against a subsidiary of telecoms giant América Móvil for not sharing infrastructure data is not enough, given that another subsidiary of the same company failed to do it too.
• COMPETITION: Representing competitors like AT&T and Movistar Telefónica, the chamber asked the Mexican regulator (IFT) to issue another fine against América Movil’s subsidiary Telmex for its fixed-line domestic business as it did previously against Telnor in January.
• SIMILAR: “These are two companies that are part of the same group and operate in different regions of the country…We receive similar practices from both, in that sense we would expect similar consequences in the case of Telmex as with Telnor”, said Mónica Aspe, CANIETI’s vice-president.
• ASYMMETRIC: At the same time, Mexico’s telecoms regulator (IFT) is expected to finalize in the coming weeks its review of its “asymmetric” measures against América Móvil -also the main actor in the wireless sector- originally established to promote competition.
