• ARREST: Mexican federal forces arrested the police chief of the small town of Janos in the state of Chihuahua (pop. 10,000) under suspicion of having links to the November 4th massacre where three women and six children were killed in the state of Sonora, local officials said.

• CARTEL: Active as police chief of Janos for the past couple of years, Fidel Alejandro Villegas was being investigated to have ties to the La Línea criminal group according to local media in Chihuahua. The Mexican Attorney General Office has not confirmed the arrest yet.

• SERIOUS: “The arrest (of Villegas) took us by surprise. The arrest took place in Ciudad Juarez, where he and his family was for Christmas Day shopping…There are many things people are talking about. It’s a serious accusation”, Sebastián Efraín Pineda, the mayor of Janos, told Mexican radio.

• PROTESTS: Family and friends of two of three men previously arrested in Janos for possible links to the massacre of La Mora, Sonora held protests in Janos saying that the men are actually farm laborers with no connections to any organized crime group.
