• CONFIDENCE: A majority of Mexican voters, 65 percent, say they have confidence in the country’s independent electoral body (INE) less than two months prior to the country’s key June 6 midterm election,  a new poll by Mexico City’s Reforma newspaper revealed.

• COMPARISON: At a time when the president has leveled accusations against INE’s independent board members, Mexican voters’ confidence on INE is ten points larger than the 58 percent of Mexican voters who say that they have confidence in president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

• REFEREE: “The campaign has already started and it seems that there are those who are more determined to play against the referee”, said Lorenzo Córdova, the head of INE. During the June 6 vote, the control of Mexico’s Lower House is up for grabs.

•CONTROVERSY: Yesterday, INE ratified its decision to withdraw the Guerrero state gubernatorial candidacy of MORENA’s politician Félix Salgado Macedonio for not filing pre-campaign expense reports. The survey was conducted in person among 1,200 Mexican voters between April 8-13, 2021.
