• REBOUND: Hotels in Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations like Los Cabos and Cancún are expected to reach the maximum occupancy allowed under coronavirus pandemic guidelines during the two-week Easter holiday. Officials forecast the national average hotel occupancy rate to be 58 percent.
• ESTIMATES: Earlier this month, the Tourism Ministry estimated that the total number of arrivals to Mexico’s tourist destinations during Easter holiday that runs from March 29 through April 22 will grow 1,900 percent compared to the same period last year when the pandemic hit.
• EXPECTATION: “All of us…have the expectation that we will be allowed to work 100 percent following the maximum authorized (occupancy) percentages, in accordance with each state’s guidelines”, said Eduardo Paniagua, head of the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV).
• GUIDELINES: The local tourism board in the Pacific resort of Los Cabos expects that hotels will reach the maximum occupancy allowed of 50 percent during the Easter holiday. Meanwhile, hotel occupancy in Caribbean resorts like Cancún is expected to be 60 percent, per state authorities.
