• ANXIETY: Mexican women are far more likely to report that the coronavirus pandemic has harmed their mental health, with 51 percent of them saying they have felt mental anguish during the past year compared to 34 percent of men, a joint survey by Reforma newspaper and the IMCO think tank shows.

• DISPROPORTIONATE: As it has been the case in other parts of the world, the joint poll also showed Mexican women reporting higher levels of emotional exhaustion (47 percent) than men (31 percent) and a higher level of depression (31 percent) than men (19 percent).

• CHORES: “As a result of the pandemic, women have not only had to absorb more tasks at home, but they have also increased the number of chores relate to the care of relatives and children”, the pollsters said. The survey was conducted in person among 1,200 Mexican adults early this month.

• ECONOMY: Government figures show that women have also suffered the most from the coronavirus economic downturn with women labor force participation falling from 73.5 percent in March of last year to 40.5 percent in January of this year.
