•STABLE: Mexico’s president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) remains stable one day after announcing that he had tested positive for coronavirus, the country’s Interior Minister Olga Sánchez Cordero said Monday. She added that López Obrador is fully in charge of his duties as president.

•SYMPTOMS: On Sunday, the government said that López Obrador’s symptoms were mild and that he was already under medical treatment at his residence in Mexico’s National Palace. At 67 years old and with a history of cardiac disease, López Obrador is part of a high-risk group.

•DUTIES: “The President is stable. Soon, very soon, he will recover, I’m sure”, said Sánchez Cordero who added that López Obrador will be conducting a phone call Monday with Russia’s president Vladimir Putin to talk about Mexico potentially receiving the Sputnik V vaccine.

•PANDEMIC: Known for not wearing a face mask in public, López Obrador’s contagion comes at a time when Mexico is confronting the worst phase of the pandemic with nearly 150,000 coronavirus deaths and more than 1.7 million confirmed coronavirus cases.
