•VACCINE: The first 3,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine arrived in Mexico City on Wednesday with the Mexican government planning to start inoculating health workers as soon as Thursday. Mexico is the first country in Latin America to receive the vaccine.

•DOSES: Government officials had previously said that by this date Mexico would have received a first batch of 125,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The vaccine was flown from the Pfizer plant in the Belgian city of Puurs by German logistics company DHL.

•END: “Today is the beginning of the end of the pandemic. Today we can clearly see that we are going to defeat this virus that has come to transform our lives. Tomorrow vaccination begins and we will be happier”, Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said.

•NUMBERS: As of late Tuesday, Mexico has officially reported 1,325,915 coronavirus cases and 118,598 coronavirus deaths. Mexico is the fourth country in the world with the most coronavirus deaths in absolute terms and one with the highest positivity rates.
