•VACCINATION: Vaccination in Mexico against the coronavirus will start next week with the first round of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines going to 125,000 frontline healthcare workers who directly care for coronavirus patients, the Mexican Health Ministry said.
•LOGISTICS: Mexico faces logistical issues given that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine needs to be kept at minus 70 degrees Celsius (-94 F) and requires two doses. Healthcare workers will be transported to Mexico City and the northern city of Torreón to get vaccinated.
•PLAN: “We will start in places where we have access (to refrigeration) and in a certain way not take the vaccine to places (around the country) but rather bring the people to receive the vaccine “, said Mexican Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela.
•NUMBERS: As of late Tuesday, Mexico has officially reported 1,193,255 coronavirus cases and 110,874 coronavirus deaths. Mexico is the fourth country in the world with the most coronavirus deaths in absolute terms and one with the highest positivity rates.
