•SERIOUS: The rise in the number of coronavirus deaths and coronavirus cases in Mexico during the past six weeks is a very worrisome problem and Mexican authorities must deal with the issue very seriously, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said Monday.
•NUMBERS: As of late Sunday, Mexico has officially reported 1,107,071 coronavirus cases and 105,665 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 16% share of total confirmed cases. Mexico is the fourth country in the world with the most coronavirus deaths in absolute terms.
•WORRISOME: “When both indicators, deaths and cases, increase I think this is a very serious problem and we would like to ask Mexico to be very serious,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO’s Director-General. “This shows that Mexico is in bad shape”.
•EXCESS: Both public health experts and government officials believe that the number of coronavirus deaths in Mexico is actually higher than the 105,665 officially reported. On Sunday, Mexican health officials say they believe that the actual coronavirus deaths count could be 155,990.
