•REBOUND: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador enters his third year in office with a rebound in his approval ratings after falling to its lowest during the summer but with a majority of Mexicans disapproving its anti-crime strategies, a new poll by Mexico City’s Reforma newspaper revealed.
•APPROVAL: Despite Mexico experiencing severe health, economic and security crises, López Obrador’s approval rating jumped to 61 percent in November from 56 percent in August. Overall, López Obrador’s image gets good grades among Mexicans but not his government policies.
•RESULTS: “When the different areas of his government are examined, the picture changes. The majority of the population considers that it has not given the results it offered in terms of security, the economy or the fight against corruption”, said Lorena Becerra, Reforma newspaper’s head of polling.
•SECURITY: During López Obrador’s first two years in office, murders in Mexico reached a record high of 58,446. According to Reforma’s poll, 64% of Mexicans believes the president’s anti-crime strategy has not yielded results. The survey was conducted in person among 1,200 Mexican adults.
