• CURFEW: The López Obrador administration discarded that Mexico’s federal government could impose overnight curfew restrictions like those implemented by some European countries in the last few weeks to prevent a further spike in coronavirus cases.

• NUMBERS: As of late Monday, Mexico has officially reported 906,863 coronavirus cases and 90,309 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 16% share of total confirmed cases. Mexico is the fourth country in the world with the most coronavirus deaths in absolute terms.

• MEASURES: “We do learn from the experiences of Europe and other places in the world, but we will not have a curfew, we are also not going to impose sanctions on those who do not comply with the mandatory measures for health protection”, Interior Minister, Olga Sánchez Cordero said Wednesday.

• STATES: However, some Mexican states have reinstated stronger restrictions given the latest uptick in coronavirus cases. These include the western state of Jalisco and the northern state of Chihuahua where governors have recently limited non-essential activities including nightlife.
