•VACCINES: The López Obrador administration said today that Mexico (pop. 119 million) has secured at least 116 million doses of the coronavirus vaccines currently under development thanks to the country’s partnerships with other countries and private pharmaceutical companies.

•NUMBERS: As of late Tuesday, Mexico has officially reported 821,045 coronavirus cases and 83,945 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 16% share of total confirmed cases. Mexico is the fourth country with the most coronavirus deaths in absolute terms.

•STATUS: “Mexico is in the same condition as the United States and the European Union, and other countries in the world which have guaranteed the necessary quotas”, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said today. The total amount that Mexico is investing is US $1.6 billion.

•PARTNERSHIPS: Mexico said it would obtain 51 million vaccine doses via the international initiative known as COVAX, 34 million doses from US-based Pfizer and 77 million doses from the UK’s AztraZeneca (all of which are expected to be a 2-dose schedule). The country will also get 35 million single doses from China’s CanSino.
