•TRAVEL: Thirty out of 52 international airlines operating in Mexico before the coronavirus pandemic hit in February have yet to reactivate their flights into the country, according to the most recent figures from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
•US AIRLINES: While Latin American airlines like Aerolíneas Argentinas and Asian airlines like Southern China have stopped their operations in Mexico, only two out of 15 US carriers -Compass Airlines and ExpressJet- have decided to leave the country altogether.
•MARKETS: “No market is guaranteed to continue, many routes will no longer reopen,” said Juan Antonio José, an independent aviation consultant, who added that most US airlines have only maintained routes between the US and Mexico that remain profitable.
•BANKRUPTCY: Global air travel is expected to fall 60-70 percent in 2020 versus 2019, according to a forecast Standards and Poor’s Global (S&P). This decrease in travel, has already made various airlines file for bankruptcy including Aeromexico, one of Mexico’s largest air carriers.
