• LOWEST: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s approval rating dropped in August to its lowest level since taking office with 56 percent of Mexicans approving his job as the country faces a severe health, economic and security crisis, a new poll by Mexico City’s Reforma newspaper reveals.

• HISTORY: After hitting 78 percent at the beginning of his term, López Obrador’s approval rating has consistently fallen given a rising share of Mexicans perceiving a multi-pronged crisis with 64,000 coronavirus deaths, 17,000 murders and the country’s worst economic recession in 90 years.

•DISAPPROVAL: “The president is disapproved for his handling of all the areas of his government, except in education. The issues in which he is worst evaluated are the fight against organized crime and the economy”, said Lorena Becerra, Reforma newspaper’s head of polling.

• ISSUES: Insecurity remains the issue of most concern among Mexicans (33%) but the share of people mentioning the economy and unemployment has doubled since March. Reforma’s survey was conducted in person among 1,200 Mexican adults.
