• DEATHS: The number of Mexican nationals who have died from coronavirus in the US has now reached 2,173 with at least one third of the deaths (771) happening in the New York City metro area including some counties in New Jersey and Connecticut, according to official data.

• ASHES: Given the large number of Mexicans deaths, the Mexican government has facilitated the repatriation of cremated remains including via a special Air Force flight in July that brought 245 ash urns from New York City. The second state with more Mexican deaths is California (436).

• RESPECT: “As we did it the first time (in July) with our countrymen who were repatriated in ash urns, we will make a new transfer (of cremated remains) with all dignity, all honors, all the decorum”, said Jorge Islas, the Mexican consul general in New York, during a Facebook live session on Monday.

• NUMBERS: Mexican-origin population in the US is estimated to be 36.6 million with 11 million of those born in Mexican territory, according to the Pew Research Center. The Mexican government is offering to partially pay for funeral expenses of Mexicans dead from coronavirus abroad.
