• MODEL: A new model from the University of Washington estimates that Mexico will reach more than 130,000 coronavirus deaths by December 1st. The new projection arrives as the country just topped 60,000 deaths, a scenario Mexican authorities had considered catastrophic.

• NUMBERS: As of late Sunday, Mexico has officially reported 563,705 coronavirus cases and 60,800 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 16% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state of State of Mexico follows in second place with a 11% share of cases.

• EVERYTHING: “We have done everything in our power”, said Mexico’s coronavirus czar Hugo López Gatell on Sunday saying he was frustrated by media focused on numbers of deaths. “”I believe there is an obsession in saying we have 60,000 (deaths) and now there are 70,000”.

• TESTS: Critics have raised objections regarding the Mexican government strategy including against the low numbers of coronavirus testing. The latest data compiled by Johns Hopkins University shows that Mexico’s average daily tests are 4 per 100,000, one of the lowest in the world.
