• REOPENING: Mexico City’s historic downtown is trying for a second time Monday the orderly reopening of its business activity to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. This new attempt comes after a weekend closure forced by the local government after several days of crowding last week.
• VISITORS: After a three-month lockdown, Mexico City’s historic downtown is in a phased-in historic downtown which in normal business days used to receive 1 million visitors. In addition to sanitary checkpoints, officials are limiting access to the area using the first letter of visitors’ last names
• NON-MANDATORY: “This measure is completely voluntary. It is only a provision for those who want to help to avoid getting infected by the pandemic while they are visiting the historic center”, said Rosa Icela Rodríguez, a top government official in Mexico City’s local government.
• PANDEMIC: The Mexico City local government is asking residents to wear face mask in public and especially when accessing the 3.4 square miles historic downtown. Total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Mexico City is 52,210 and total confirmed deaths are 5,752.
