• PANDEMIC: Mexico will overtake Spain sometime this week as the sixth country with the most coronavirus deaths as the Latin American country remains in a plateau and Mexican health officials expecting that the pandemic will extend well into the fall.

• DEATHS: As of late Tuesday, Mexico has officially reported 27,769 coronavirus deaths with 586 fatalities added in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Spain has reported 28,355 coronavirus deaths. The top five countries by number of coronavirus deaths are the US, Brazil, the UK, Italy and France.

• EXTENDED: “Let’s prepare for a long epidemic”, said Hugo López-Gatell, Mexico’s undersecretary of health. “The mathematical projections…suggest that it could last until October…specifically (in the states of) Jalisco and Nuevo León where it will arrive late”.

• NUMBERS: The total number of coronavirus cases reported in Mexico is 226,089. Around one third of total cases (82,000) are centered in the Mexico City metropolitan area made up by Mexico City properly and the neighboring State of Mexico.
