• DEATHS: Close to three quarters of those Mexicans who have died from coronavirus (72%) had at least one chronic illness like hypertension, diabetes and obesity, according to the most recent Mexican government data shows. Some 12,662 death cases had at last one comorbidity.
• NUMBERS: As of late Monday, Mexico has officially reported 150,264 coronavirus cases and 17,580 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 24% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state of State of Mexico follows in second place with a 15% share of cases.
• VALUABLE: “If you have family members with diabetes or hypertension and have symptoms of covid, go for (a medical) assessment. Time is extremely valuable”, said Hugo López Gatell, Mexico’s undersecretary of health, who is leading the federal level response.
• HYPERTENSION: Like in other parts of the world, Mexico’s leading comorbidities among those who have died from coronavirus include: hypertension (42%) and/or diabetes (37%). The numbers coming out from Mexico are not that different to other countries like the US
