• MOMENT: Mexico is facing the most dangerous moment of the coronavirus pandemic with many Mexican states on their way to the peak or hovering around the peak, World Health Organization’s officials (WHO) warned today. Mexico is the seventh country in the world by total coronavirus deaths.

• NUMBERS: As of late Tuesday, Mexico has officially reported 124,301 coronavirus cases and 14,649 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 26% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state of State of Mexico follows in second place with a 15% share of cases.

• COMPLEX: “In the case of Mexico, we’re experiencing one of the most complex and most dangerous moments of the epidemic”, said Cristian Morales, the WHO’s head in Mexico. “Several states are on their way to the peak, some are at the peak, and others have begun to descend but are still close to the peak”.

• INCIDENCE: Mexican health officials said this week that the main focus of concern are those states where the coronavirus incidence rate is still growing above 20%. According to the most recent data, 20 out of 32 Mexican states remain under this condition.
