• CASES: Mexico reported Thursday its highest daily jump in reported coronavirus cases (4,442) since the beginning of the pandemic. Due to the methodology used by Mexico, not all the cases reported today were detected in the past 24 hours. The death toll also increased by 816 fatalities.

• NUMBERS: As of late Thursday, Mexico has officially reported 105,680 coronavirus cases and 12,545 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 26% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state of State of Mexico follows in second place with a 16% share of cases.

• RED LIGHT: “Right now the whole country is at a red light”, said Hugo López-Gatell, Mexico’s undersecretary of health. “Don’t leave your houses. Don’t open companies. Don’t open non-essential shops. There is no justification for this because the epidemic may be perpetuated, worsened”

• BED SPACE: According to government data, hospital bed occupancy rates in Mexico City (82%) and State of Mexico (75%) remain very high. Mexico City authorities say they would only proceed to a phased-in reopening  until hospital bed occupancy sits below 65%.
