• STORM: Tropical storm Cristobal made landfall Wednesday morning along the Gulf Coastal region of Campeche bringing torrential rains to southeastern Mexico and while President Andrés Manuel López Obrador tours the region to supervise his signature infrastructure projects.

• RISKS: According to Mexico’s weather service, Cristobal is moving slowly over the Campeche state territory at a pace of just 3.7 miles per hour and bringing winds of up to 69 miles per hour. The storm is expected to make a u-turn moving back to the Gulf of Mexico, according to Mexican authorities.

• RAINFALL: “The most important factor at the moment is the rain accumulation that we have from two storm systems (Cristobal and Amanda)”, said David León, Mexico’s head of civil protection. On Sunday, tropical storm Amanda made landfall in neighboring Guatemala.

• TOUR: As Mexico reopens after weeks of lockdown due to the coronavirus emergency, President López Obrador is currently in Campeche. He is expected to visit the construction site for the state-owned Dos Bocas oil refinery in the Tabasco coast, just 90 miles where the storm is stationed now.
