• GOVERNMENT: Mexican health authorities warned Tuesday that Mexico is undergoing the most intense phase of the coronavirus outbreak and that the country has yet to pass pandemic peak. Authorities presented today the largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases reported in one day

• NUMBERS: As of late Tuesday, Mexico has officially reported 97,326 coronavirus cases and 10,637 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 27% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state, State of Mexico, follows in second place with a 16% share of cases.

• EPIDEMIC: “It’s very important to resist a little longer. As much as possible not to go out into the public space…And thus have a better control of the epidemic throughout the following weeks, at least until June 15”,said Hugo López Gatell, Mexico’s undersecretary of health.

• CAPACITY: Mexican authorities reported Tuesday that hospital capacity is relatively stressed in Mexico City, where public hospitals are at 80% bed occupancy and at 66% critical care bed usage. Mexico City proper has a population of 8.9 million, but its metro area encompasses 21 million.
