• SIGNS: Despite still being at peak, Mexico City has begun to see early signs that its local coronavirus epidemic is declining including a reduction in the daily number of cases reported, Mexican government officials said Thursday.

• NUMBERS: As of late Thursday, Mexico has officially reported 81,400 coronavirus cases and 9,044 deaths. Mexico City accounts for a 28% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state, State of Mexico, follows in second place with a 16% share of cases.

• RIDGE: “In Mexico City it is right on the ridge and we are already starting to see some early signs of a reduction in the number of cases”, said Hugo López Gatell, Mexico’s undersecretary of health. However, he cautioned that a 6-day decline in Mexico City was interrupted Wednesday

• REGIONS: Other than the Mexico City area, the government’s efforts are focused on the Pacific state of Guerrero. Authorities said that the northern cities of Tijuana and Culiacán along with the southern cities of Villahermosa and Cancún are already in a decline phase of the epidemic curve.
