• DECREASE: Bed occupancy at Mexico City’s intensive care units (ICU) dropped to 60% on Friday given an increase in bed capacity and a marginal reduction in new patients, Mexico City authorities said Friday. Total number of ICU beds in Mexico City is 1,808 and 1,081 are occupied.

• NUMBERS: As of late Thursday, Mexico has officially reported 59,567 coronavirus cases. Mexico City accounts for approximately a 28% share of total confirmed cases. The neighboring state, State of Mexico, follows in second place with a 16% share of cases.

• WARNING: “We cannot say that we are already in a matter of decline (of the epidemic) until this is verified for at least a week, or a week and a half of decline”, Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday. Mexico City properly is home to 8.9 million people.

• CAPACITY: Just yesterday, Mexico City authorities have said that the local ICU bed occupancy rate was 65%. The increase ICU bed capacity at military and federal government public hospitals from 1,704 on Thursday to 1,808 on Friday was the main reason behind the drop.
