• CONCERN: Representatives of five European chambers of commerce in Mexico said Thursday they were bewildered by the recent Mexican government directive hampering the development of new renewable energy plants and raised concerns about legal certainty for investors in Mexico.

• RELEVANCE: Three weeks after the López Obrador administration announced the suspension of performance tests for new wind and solar plants, the German, French, Spanish, Italian and Nordic chambers of commerce said in a letter that investors confidence in Mexico had been undermined.

• DAMAGE: “Changing the rules of the energy sector without following the institutional channel established by law causes serious damage to investor confidence. Not only in the renewable energy sector, but also through other sectors”, says the letter addressed to the Mexican government.

• PROTESTS: Representing 18,000 companies, the European private sector’s letter follows a protest by the Ambassadors of 19 European countries with investments in Mexico. Currently, renewables companies have won a preliminary indictment in Mexican courts halting temporarily the rule.
