• DEATHS: At least 959 Mexican nationals have died from the coronavirus pandemic in the US, according to the latest data gathered by Mexican consulates. Two thirds of these deaths (641) happened in the New York City metro area including counties in New Jersey and Connecticut.

• STATES: Far behind the New York City metro area, the US states with most Mexican nationals deaths are California (87) and  Illinois (66).  Mexican nationals deaths have been reported in at least 40 US states while total confirmed coronavirus deaths in Mexican territory are 5,332.

• SUPPORT: “The main focus of attention has been New York”, said Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard. “We have provided support to 983 relatives of (Mexicans) who died in that city because…they have gone through an extremely difficult situation. We are very sorry”.

• ESTIMATES: The number of New York City residents born in Mexico was estimated to be 162,000, according an analysis by the City University of New York (CUNY). However, Mexican consular authorities believe that 500,000 Mexicans live in the area mostly working in the provision of services.
