• THREAT: Reforma newspaper reported Thursday it had received a phone call from a man identifying himself as a member of the Sinaloa drug cartel threatening to blow up its headquarters if the Mexico City daily did not stop its critical coverage of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

• CALL: “Tell him (the editor-in-chief) not to slander the President of the Republic, not to keep betraying the homeland because, if not, we’re going to blow up the offices of your fucking newspaper. Tell him exactly this”, said the man in a call answered by the newspaper’s switchboard operator.

• VIDEO: On Wednesday, Reforma uploaded a video to its website with a timeline of López Obrador’s statements regarding the coronavirus emergency. The man in the phone call mentioned the video. In 2012, Reforma sister newspaper -El Norte- was the target of three attacks in the city of Monterrey.

• DIFFERENCES: “We condemn any threat, even made on our behalf. We already know that we have differences with Reforma (newspaper), we will continue to have them. Because we think differently. They are the most genuine representatives of conservative thought”, said López Obrador today.
