• DEFENSE: The US Department of Defense said Thursday it had seen positive results from the Mexican Government in order to reactivate the defense supply chain affected by the closure of manufacturing plants due to Mexico’s March 30 health emergency declaration.

• STRIDES: “I’m thankful to our US Ambassador in Mexico (Chris Landau) and to the Government of Mexico who has taken great strides to evaluate firms and their contribution to US national security requirements”, said Ellen Lord, the US undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment

• LETTER: On Wednesday, a group US Senators wrote to Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, asking him to press Mexico to clarify its definition of “non-essential” activities subject to shutdown due to the pandemic. However, Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, said this is not a bilateral issue.

• DOMESTIC: “The process Mexico is following in terms of timing (of reopening plants) has its own dyna mics and is determined by the General Health Council..[…]..That is what will guide Mexico’s action and they are very aware of that. In short, it is not a bilateral issue”, said Ebrard.
