• PEAK: Mexico’s health authorities projected today that the country will hit the peak of the coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday, May 6. The government warned Mexicans to keep strict social distancing measures during this period in order to help flatten the epidemic curve.

• NUMBERS: As of late Thursday, Mexico has officially reported 19,224 coronavirus cases and 1,859 deaths. Mexico City accounts for approximately a 27% share of the total confirmed cases. The neighboring state, State of Mexico, is number two in total confirmed cases, with a 16% share.

• HOPE: “(The cities of) Guadalajara and Monterrey…have stabilized the increase in cases. This is excellent news because of the three major metropolitan areas (in the country) only one is active right now”, said Hugo López-Gatell, Mexico’s undersecretary of health.

• OUTBREAKS: The Mexican government said today there are five severe coronavirus outbreaks across the country: the Mexico City metro area, the Caribbean resort city of Cancún, the border city of Tijuana, the northwestern city of Culiacán, and the southeastern city of Villahermosa.
