• UNCERTAINTY: The exact date when the US-Mexico land border will reopen to non-essential travel is still uncertain but it is desirable that the faster trade links are reestablished the better would be for both countries, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday.

• DATES: Back on March 21st, the US and Mexican governments agreed to a 30-day closure of their land border to non-essential travel due to the coronavirus outbreak. Even when commercial traffic is not banned, many supply chains have also slowed down due to the pandemic.

• LEADERS: “I’ve heard from companies down in Mexico. I’ve heard from American companies operating in Mexico as well. They too are anxious to make sure we can get…the economic corridor reestablished between the two countries”, said Pompeo during a press call.

• SUPPLY: Las week, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that he will allow for Mexican auto parts industry to restart operations once the US auto industry resumes operations. Many export industries have been impacted by Mexico’s health emergency declaration of March 30th.
